Divine, intelligent, versatile artists – The Society for Women in the Arts, Incorporated
is dedicated to serving as a network of support for the creative development of women in the arts through philanthropy, scholarship, and education.
History
On March 2, 1983, at Howard University in The College of Fine Arts, Department of Drama, six women saw a need for an organization for female Fine Arts students. Thus, they decided to form the organization, D.I.V.A., Inc. – Divine, Intelligent, Versatile Artists – The Society for Women in the Arts, Incorporated.
D.I.V.A.’s basic goals are to bring unity to women in the arts by promoting finer creativity within oneself, one’s soul and one’s craft; to appreciate the value of fellow artists; to promote self- confidence and an outgoing attitude with respect to one’s craft and to promote finer womanhood in every aspect of the word.
Philosophy
Divine, Intelligent, Versatile, Artists is dedicated to the enrichment, encouragement and fulfillment of women of color who have chosen the arts as their career. It is our mission to serve as a network of support for the creative development of humankind. In our quest to achieve excellence, we intend to create a legacy of integrity, fortitude and an emergence of culture.
