KELSEY E. COLLIE CAP AND GOWN FUND
Musical Theater Concentrations
History
Founded in 2017 by dedicated D.I.V.A. Inc. member Keri Williams, this initiative honors the remarkable legacy of Professor Dr. Kelsey E. Collie and his enduring contributions to both the Department of Theatre Arts at Howard University and the broader DMV arts community. A retired professor of Theatre Arts, Dr. Collie remains deeply connected to Howard University as a consultant for the Department of Theatre Arts and the Division of Fine Arts. During his tenure, he founded the Howard University Children’s Theatre in 1970 and the Playmakers Repertory Company, both of which have had a lasting impact on generations of artists. Today, Dr. Collie continues his work in the arts through his own Children’s Theatre Experience and the Playmakers Repertory Company, now part of the vibrant Community Theatre at Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, under the leadership of Richard Jackson. This tribute not only celebrates Dr. Collie’s legacy but also fosters the ongoing development of arts education and community engagement, ensuring that his influence continues to inspire and shape the future of theatre.
